It is important to note that commercial gutters are not exactly the same as residential gutters. The gutter materials that are used on residential buildings are very similar to the gutter materials used on commercial buildings, the main differences are the durability and state-required building codes.

Box Gutters are a popular choice when putting gutters on a commercial building mainly due to their overall effectiveness.

BOX GUTTERS

Box gutters are typically used in commercial gutter installations because the shape allows for larger amounts of water to pass through. Box gutters have wider openings, allowing for easier gutter cleaning, greater gutter drainage capacity, and the shape also gives the building additional protection. Typically, businesses do not have large trees hanging over the gutters, resulting in clogs, so the wider openings allow for speedy gutter drainage. They are built into the bottom of the roofline or the roof’s overhang, which is done specifically with box gutters as a way to completely blend into the structure. Our seamless box gutters are the perfect choice for people who prefer uncomplicated gutter installation, innovation,
and clean lines.

FLAT ROOF GUTTERS

You can assume that gutters are the most cost-effective gutter drainage solution for flat roofs – and you’d be right! Gutters catch the rainwater as it rolls off the roof, moves it down the downspout and safely away from the building where it can’t cause any potential damage. Gutters prevent the water from simply rolling off the roof, uncontrolled, running down the side of the building, damaging the building’s siding, windows, and its general foundation.

Flat roof gutters are a type of guttering system where the gutters are designed to shed water away from flat roof buildings.

Commercial Gutter Sizes and Materials

Commercial gutters can and should be manufactured in a variety of sizes. The most common commercial gutter size is a wider 6-inch gutter that allows the larger roof area to have the extra runoff room, as well as stronger durability.

When thinking about new gutter installation, it is crucial that you take the potential water volume into consideration. With that being said, the downspout size is also a huge factor to think about and here at Rain Guard, we are prepared to make all the gutter adaptations necessary. Here at Rain Guard, we use 5 and 6 inch sizes which are specially ordered. The gutter material itself is a reinforced aluminum because it is heavier and thicker than your typical gutter adding to its durability. Note that all changes to your gutters should be done specifically by the manufacturers or professionals like us. Painting gutters after gutter installation is not recommended.

OKLAHOMA STATE CODE REQUIREMENTS FOR GUTTERS

Building codes will vary depending on location, but because commercial buildings are typically similar in sizes, gutter systems in Oklahoma are usually covered under local building regulations.

Some of the state gutter regulations would involve the size, material, and any other specific details regarding the location. Another OK state gutter regulation that needs to be taken into consideration is where the gutter drainage is directed and ways it is reducing flooding in nearby buildings and/or sewer systems. Due to our multiple decades of combined guttering experience, our team here at Rain Guard knows all the specific required state codes for buildings of all shapes and sizes according to the location. Our gutter team is also more than happy to explain to you our process and why commercial gutters are different from residential gutters.
